mrm Augsburg

The University of Augsburg has earned an excellent reputation in the field of resource efficiency in recent years. A modern research building has been constructed on the campus. On almost six thousand square meters of floor space, the intersections in research have been optimally exploited. The „Materials & Resources“ institute and the „Production & Software“ department are integrated into the new architecture. In addition, the premises for the „Industrial Engineering“ and „Engineering Informatics“ courses as well as the professorships of the University of Applied Sciences are sensibly linked together in the integral spatial concept.

The office Code Unique Architects from Dresden won the competition with the design of a compact three-storey building with clear edges on the outside. INOCLAD Engineering supplies the facades for the building complex, which initially appears rather austere due to the replacement of closed wall panes with integrated cladding elements made of expanded metal on the one hand and glazed elements on the other. At the same time, however, the uniform sequence of vertical elements gives the building a calm and distinctive appearance.

The interior use of the building is divided into three courtyards. One of them opens to the east on the ground floor and leads into an incision in the building, which presents itself from the outside as a high-quality entrance and attractive main entrance.
