new building for vehicle safety research at the technische hochschule ingolstadt
The Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) launched a research and test center for the vibrant development sector of vehicle safety called CARISSMA (Center of Automotive Research on Integrated Safety Systems and Measurement Area). This interesting project was completed in 2016. The focus of the scientific work here is in the development of integrated safety systems for traffic. For research purposes, human senses are replicated and testing techniques are investigated, with hazards being identified early to avert accidents.
The testing facility is comprised of a research building located on the campus that borders on the historic district of Ingolstadt and a test track with an adjoining building in a remote industrial area. In the CARRISMA research building, there is a crash test track as well as test beds and garages. Therefore, developments in early phases can be investigated here.
The new building seamlessly integrates into the city fabric alongside the historic fortress rings due to the unobtrusive building height. INOCLAD Engineering supplied the complete exterior covering for the research building. The copper façade, developed by the renowned Munich architecture firm Henn, is particularly impressive and will gradually develop a patina in the next few years. Thus, the building corresponds not only with nature but also matches the surrounding brick buildings.
